The Ford Hangar
Lansing’s most significant building may be the Ford Hangar at Lansing Municipal Airport. Henry Ford built the hangar in 1926. The Village of Lansing purchased the airport in 1976. Since that time, it has grown to over 600 acres and houses several aviation businesses. Through the efforts of Mr. Harold Christian and the Lansing Historical Society, the hangar was placed on the National Registry of Historic Places in 1985.
In 2006, the Lansing Historical Society, in cooperation with the Village of Lansing, raised $60,000 to beging to repair, restore and preserve the hangar through its public art project “Tri Motors in Plane View”. A celebration of the 80th anniversary of the Ford Hanger.
